Is Ares only for competitive boxers?2025-10-06T15:46:32+00:00

Not at all! While we support boxers on performance pathways, Ares is just as much about building confidence, creating safe spaces, and empowering people who simply love the sport. If you’re training regularly and want to grow, you belong here.

What should I bring to an Ares squad session?2025-10-06T15:46:10+00:00

Just bring what you’d normally wear when training at your local boxing gym — comfortable clothes you can move in. You’ll also need your gloves, wraps, gumshield, headguard, skipping rope, and plenty of water. If the session involves sparring, don’t forget your medical card and protective gear.

Do I need to have an in-date medical to attend?2025-08-01T18:04:51+00:00

No, you don’t need an in-date medical to attend. However, you won’t be able to take part in any sparring. Don’t worry though — there’s still loads for you to get stuck into! We have plenty of coaches running bag work, pad sessions, technical drills and more, so you’ll still get loads of value out of the day.

Do I need to register in advance for sessions?2025-08-01T18:05:56+00:00

Yes, spaces at our events are limited and often fill quickly. We’ll always share links for registration on our website and social media, so make sure to book early to avoid missing out!

What is Ares Male Empowerment?2025-10-06T15:45:41+00:00

Born out of the success of the Athena Female Empowerment programme, ARES was created to offer the same high standards of training, structure, and support to male boxers across the UK. The demand was clear—while Athena transformed opportunities for female athletes, the calls for a male equivalent grew louder. So, we listened.

Who can join Ares?2025-10-06T15:47:17+00:00

We welcome male boxers of all levels — from beginners looking to build confidence, to national champions preparing for international competition. We also support male coaches, officials, and volunteers who want to grow within the sport.

Is there a cost to attend Ares sessions?2025-10-06T15:44:42+00:00

Nope — all Ares sessions are completely free to attend. We believe cost should never be a barrier to opportunity. Just bring your kit, your energy, and a positive attitude — we’ll handle the rest!

Do you support cultural or religious considerations?2025-10-06T15:48:04+00:00

We do. Ares is an inclusive organisation and we do everything we can to respect and accommodate individual needs. If you have any concerns, just let us know in advance — we’re here to support every boxer, every step of the way.

Do you offer support for mental wellbeing?2025-08-01T18:14:24+00:00

Yes — empowerment is more than physical. We promote mental health awareness, offer signposting to services, and create safe spaces where boxers can talk openly about challenges. You’re never alone at Athena.

Will photos be taken at sessions?2025-08-01T18:16:22+00:00

Yes, we often take photos and videos during our sessions to help promote the amazing work we’re doing on social media. If you’d prefer not to be in any photos, just let one of the coaches know when you arrive — no problem at all!
